New Delhi / Bengaluru, Feb 22— Karnataka-based Shaheen Group of Institutions, which has over 30 educational institutes across the country, has offered to provide free education to the children of the CRPF soldiers killed in the Pulwama terror attack last week. Dr. Abdul Qadeer, President of the group, wrote to Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Thursday and made the offer.
In the 14th February attack on a convoy of CRPF in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, over 40 soldiers were killed.
The Shaheen Group has expressed deep grief over the tragedy.
“Shaheen Group of Institutions extends heartfelt sympathy to the family of bereaved soldiers, we are extremely besieged by pain that around 40 lives of our soldiers have been snuffed out in the recent massacre carried out by terrorists in Pulwama,” Dr. Qadeer said.
In his letter to the Defence Minister, he said: “A simple letter cannot expunge the pain of losing our soldiers, but we take solace in knowing that their brace service surpassed all scope of altruism and dedication to this nation. Whole Shaheen Management, Teachers and Students join me in extending our own sympathy and in expressing the sympathy of a saddened nation. They will be in our prayers and in our hearts.
Dr. Qadeer offered to provide education to the children of the soldiers till 12th Class.
“The Shaheen Group of Institutions is ready to partner with the Ministry of Defence to provide educational benefits to the families, particularly the children of deceased. We humbly offer free education with all facilities till grade 12th to the children of martyred soldiers,” he wrote in the letter.
Later in a statement to media, he said: “Shaheen Group requested Union Government to accept the offer to provide free education with all facilities till grade 12th to the children of martyred soldiers.” “Shaheen group is committed to cover any gap that exists and to relieve these families from the educational burden,” he added.
Shaheen Group of Institutions was established in the year 1989, which has now 32 branches throughout India. Since 2008, Shaheen has attained more than 1200 free Government seats in Medical, Engineering and other professional courses setting a new record. Shaheen Group is the recipient of Kannada Rajyothsava Award from the Government of Karnataka for imparting excellent education.
In the last one week, several individuals and organizations have come out with such offers to the families of the slain soldiers.
The Delhi-based Zakat Foundation of India, which runs schools and helps IAS aspirants, has also made a similar offer. Zakat Foundation’s president Dr Syed Zafar Mahmood has also written to the CRPF seeking details about the families of the soldiers.
